Rendering Fantasy: An Introduction to SketchUp Make and the Digital Object
“ Your eyes are half-closed, your finger idly spins the scroll wheel, objects float in and out of focus: Welcome to the 3D Warehouse ”
This workshop will provide participants with an introduction to the techniques and concepts of 3D modeling using SketchUp Make, a free entry-level 3D modeling software. Participants will create objects, use ready-made models from the 3D Warehouse and export an animation from SketchUp.
Beyond using the program, a theoretical discussion of the digital object will take place, questioning the new possibilities for materiality in a environment unbridled by physics, yet a mirror for the material world.
The workshop will begin with an artist talk by Jordan Loeppky-Kolesnik about the project Queenston Quarry, an animation series created in SketchUp that was on view at the Xpace Cultural Centre’s External Space (located on the OCADU campus in the Learning Zone) in 2013.
