Please take separate bite and chew before swallowing is part of a video series centred on jin jin lychee coconut candy jellies (IYKYK). These flabby forms wiggle as I guzzle them down my throat. Nostalgia meets ASMR meets abject meets gluttony. lycheejellies4ever…

“Please take separate bite and chew before swallowing is part of a video series centred on jin jin lychee coconut candy jellies. I am often drawn to food as a subject because it is rich with
symbolism, sensuality, and histories shared cross-culturally.These jellies conjure feelings of nostalgia, care and sharing. My mom would cut them in half when we were very little so we wouldn’t choke and as we got older she would divide up the jellies equally between the five of us. This simple, monotonous, repeated action tests the limits of my body-particularly my digestive system. In the video I gorge myself and eat as many as I can until I’m sick. Sorry mom.” – Maddie Lychek
