In Between Things brings together the painting and sculpture practices of Jason Deary and Sean Stewart. Fully resolved works are presented alongside those in progress and those uncertain. The exhibition presents the collected work and materials of two ongoing and rigorous practices that look to understand something beyond themselves. The viewer is invited to walk through the artists’ investigations and participate in these conversations.

Jason Deary’s work is born out of work in galleries as a preparator and educator. His work explores the historical language and contemporary vocabularies of painting. Recently he has expanded into the realm of sculpture, exploring the relationship between object and image by translating his painting forms into physical objects and wall compositions into spatial relationships.

Sean Stewart’s work involves the investigation of structures and systems. Questioning forms, networks and their supposed functions, while also drawing inspiration from everyday systems such as railroads, bridges, gates, webs, geodesic domes, Stewart is looking to reform or imagine new and alternative possibilities. His work is executed through interdisciplinary practices. Painting, mark making and sculptural forms are explored to question spatial, physiological and symbolic connections and communication.
