Cosplay / Green Screen Workshop & Artist Talk with Maya Ben David
Toronto artist Maya Ben David (MBD) will be leading a workshop on cosplay and using a green screen. This workshop’s function is to create a space to explore green screening, performance and costuming in a non-intimidating and encouraging environment. A green screen will be set up for everyone to experiment with. Feel free to bring your own costumes.

Preceding the workshop, Maya Ben David will present an artist talk about her video/performance-based practice. Ben David holds a BFA from the University of Guelph. Through video she draws attention to moments in animation, film and popular culture that explore simulations of the “real” and “sentience” using appropriated media. She will be focusing on the performance aspect of her videos that rely heavily on the act of “cosplaying” and costuming. She will be touching upon subjects such as the history of caricature and anthropomorphism. She will also be examining the representations of gender in Japanese and Western animation and how gender is reinvented by online fan communities.

This workshop is free but please rsvp at xpace.eventbrite.com
