Call for Applications: Summer Residency for 2020 OCAD U Grads

General Guidelines

Xpace Cultural Centre is seeking applications for the opportunity to participate in our summer residency program. This residency is only open to applications from undergraduate or graduate students graduating Spring 2020 from OCAD University. Two artists/designers and one curator will be selected. The residency is intended to take place at Xpace between August 7th – September 3rd, 2020.

Note: We are actively following the guidance of Canadian public health authorities to protect the health and safety of our staff and community. If it is granted unsafe to share studio space in August 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we are equipped to adapt and shift the residency online. Please stay tuned for updates as they roll in.

ARTISTS/DESIGNERS

The residency is intended to provide exceptional graduating students dedicated time to make a new body of work for exhibition in Xpace’s Window or Project Space in September 2020. Two selected artist/designer residents will be provided with the following:

-Studio space at Xpace from August 7th – September 3rd, 2020

-An exhibition in Xpace’s Window or Project Space from September 4th – October 3rd, 2020

-A project fee of $410;

-Budget of up to $200 for materials;

-Inclusion in Xpace’s VOLUME publication in September 2020.

CURATORS

The residency is intended to provide exceptional graduating students dedicated time and space to generate a curated exhibition. The selected curator will have the opportunity to curate a group exhibition in Xpace’s Main Space, and write an accompanying exhibition text.

-Studio space at Xpace from August 7th – September 3rd, 2020

-Project fee of $410;

-Budget of up to $200 for exhibition supplies (exhibiting artists will be paid CARFAC fees);

-Inclusion in Xpace’s VOLUME publication in September 2020.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible to participate in this residency program, participants must be graduating from OCAD University in spring 2020, and be available at least part-time in Toronto for the duration of the residency (August 7th – September 3rd, 2020.) Xpace is unable to provide accommodation support at this time.
