The Anthropocene begins with an ending. Donna Haraway defines the Anthropocene as a boundary event that names a condition in which human activity has irreversibly altered the planet’s ecological, geological, and social systems. We examine a world affected by the abject – a planet discarded and contaminated by products of human progress. We Are Still Here – Technically responds to Haraway by confronting rupture by imagining new forms of co-existence. By bringing together multiple interdisciplinary artists, the exhibition engages directly with abject materials and processes. Soil, fungi, reuse, industrial remains, and technological interventions are utilized to create sculpture, ceramic, plant matter, and experimental media. In doing so, this exhibition considers how human and non-human lives are entangled within complex networks of care and consequence. Rather than turning away from these unsettling realities, works dwell within them, asking how creativity can emerge from sites of contamination and loss.
