Negative Reality Inversions and the Re-Articulation of Social Processes via Game-Rule Subversion Implementation as Reflexively Derived Structural Patterns
A special project in the Jim Meekison Student Lounge. David Jones has creatively subverted the popular video game ‘RollerCoaster Tycoon’. By creating the most dystopian theme-park possible within the parameters of the game, Jones examines the limits of video games as a model for appropriate behavior.

I would like to add that using roller coaster tycoon as a base of his argument is not good and largely flawed. What is Jim exactly trying to prove?
Is it possible to create the “most dystopian theme-park possible”? I believe not. The point of the game is to create anything of which resources are given to you. No one can claim the best, or worst creation due to the nature of permutations that the game has. This is simply just ONE GAME.. it does not represent all games. So saying “the limits of video games” is a naive and under-examined statement.
Im not trying to bash the exhibition.. but simply giving a critique to it. Im an avid gamer myself and find the thought process to this showing is very shallow

I some what agree with you. It is true that an open box game such as this on has to many permutations to claim most dystopian. Though it’s just a game…

open box? don’t you mean open world?
I would call them neither. The problem here is that the artist is not making it “just a game”. He is using it as his exhibition installation. So it should be regarded as much more.
Saying it’s just a game takes away from thenuance of the exhibition
