Download Book Keeping and Tax Saving for Visual Artists handout

It’s almost Tax Season again! A particularly perplexing and sometimes stressful time as an artist. Most visual artists are considered self-employed when filing their taxes. In a legal sense this means that your business as an artist, and you as an individual taxpayer, are one and the same. By understanding the tax system and how if affects your practice, you’ll pay less tax and be less likely to fall prey to erroneous tax information. Also, as an artist, there are a number of tax deductions that are unique to you!

Accountant Brian Borts will cover:

Harmonized sales tax (HST)
Registered retirement savings plans (RRSP’S)
Legal entities
Employment vs. Self-employment
Self-employment expenses
Filing requirements
Record keeping
Canada Revenue Agency audits
