from Us, to You

April 24, 2021

2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

A whole school year of remote learning has officially wrapped up, and we know how hard it has been to work creatively from home, especially for those who have just started their journey as  art students. Xpace is thrilled to invite first year @ocaduniversity students and students at any arts education level, to from Us, to You, a conversation on the art school experience. This will be led by a panel of three emerging artists, Hau Pham(@hauu_pham), Claire Heidinger (@notyourclaire), and Maria Tran(@mt_mariatran), who are in the process of completing their fourth year at OCAD U remotely.

These three artists will be sharing their art practices and evolvement as both students and artists, along with all of their struggles and successes with a specific focus on online learning. As a farewell before they officially graduate, from Us, to You seeks to create a space for meaningful conversation and feedback with a Q&A period and informal critique with senior peers near the end of the session. Xpace hopes to give some insight on the importance of community and collaboration in an art school setting.

If you would like to participate in the informal critique, please email one of your works to hau@xpace.info by April 23rd, 2021 by 6pm.

This workshop is FREE with RSVP at: xpace.eventbrite.com.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Hau Pham is a Vietnamese Artist currently based in Vaughan, Canada. She is completing her last year in the Drawing and Painting Program at OCAD University as a thesis student. Translating her ideas through oil paintings, her work draws heavy influence from her South-East Asian Heritage and Buddhist beliefs, mainly focusing on the complexities of the Asian Feminine identity. She currently serves as a Programs Assistant for Xpace for Spring 2021.

Claire Heidinger is a Toronto-based visual artist completing her BFA at OCAD University, specializing in Drawing and Painting with a Minor in Art History. Her work is heavily influenced by her heritage and diasporic culture, focusing on ideas of asian female sexuality. Investigating a visual fetishism created by the gaze, she creates large-scale oil paintings and experiments with food products in expanded painting.

Maria Tran is a Toronto-based artist, in her fourth year in the Digital Painting and Expanded Animation Program (DPXA) at OCAD University. Her works are largely ambient animated illustrations, which she uses to construct spaces of peace and self-healing. She explores storytelling in her projects, taking inspiration from both her personal life and from the complexities of internet culture.
