The absurdity and feigned profundity of the banal and ordinary is a longstanding tradition of modern art. Edges is blackpowerbarbie’s contribution to this tradition, centering femme, racialized, queer bodies. These bodies, however, are inherently subjects and battlegrounds of socio-political violence both physical and ideological. This social context makes rituals  of self-care a “revolutionary” act for these communities. In Edges, blackpowerbarbie celebrates the small but beautiful act of  resistance that is the artful shaping and slicking down of their baby hair, called edges.
