Please join us for a virtual tour of Memorial: Work by Artists of the Venezuelan Diaspora.

This virtual curatorial tour will be facilitated by José Andrés Mora, a Venezuelan-born artist and settler resident in Canada. Drawing from past conversations between Mora and the artists, the tour will share the process and ideas behind each of the exhibited works.

The dialogue aims to explore the complicated relationship between personal and communal experience, as Camila Salcedo explains in the curatorial essay for the exhibition. To most Venezuelans, this relationship is informed by an acute awareness of the (un)reliability of information in media, divisive political partisanship, and the measures people take to leave Venezuela; all subjects that the participating artists address – or do not address with calculated intention. For this tour, Mora is interested in opening the conversation by borrowing from his own personal background and inviting attendees to contribute experiences that parallel or build on the stories shared by the artists. Mora sees this opportunity as a way to build on the complex narrative tapestry that Memorial brings to this exhibition space.
