Where are the holidays for platonic love? What would happen if we valued friendships as we do romantic relationships?

Exploring the importance of intimacy and support of friendship and community, artist Rebecca Sweets will explore the 5 Love Languages framework of Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, and Gifts as they relate to platonic relationships through activities and group discussion. Awareness of one another’s Love Languages helps us understand how to express our emotional needs and how to meet the unique needs of our loved ones.

In honour of Valentine’s Day, this workshop will explore each language with practical examples – working with participants to identify the ways in which we express and receive love.
Activities include:
– Completing a Love Languages evaluation
– Writing a letter of gratitude to a loved one
– A physical communication and consent exercise
– Small group discussions

This workshop centers around the importance of healthy, engaged relationships as a key factor in developing a strong and reliable support system. Amatonormativity, the 3 kinds of empathy and intercultural relationships will also be touched upon. Snacks provided!
